Day Away: Soldier Hollow Cross-Country Ski Resort
Day trip destinations around Utah for you and your family to enjoy.

Enjoy the last little bit of winter while you still can! Just above Midway in the Wasatch Mountain State Park lies Soldier Hollow, the perfect destination for a snowy day of family fun.

Soldier Hollow boasts 1,200-foot sliding lanes –the longest in Utah– a lift service to tow you up the hill day or night, and they even provide you with tubes. All you have to do is get a tubing ticket and you’re all set to bounce, slide and ride with your family. Tickets are $19 for ages 7 and up (this includes adults) and $11 for 3 to 6 year-olds.

Tubing sessions are 2 hours long and start on the even hour (i.e. 10 to noon, noon to 2. etc.). The hill is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and during holiday periods and from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday of non-holiday periods. To ensure that your Soldier Hollow tubing trip is the best you’ve ever had, the resort does limit the sale of tubing tickets. They suggest that you pre-purchase tickets if you are planning to come on a Saturday or major holiday. For questions or to pre-order tickets call 435.654.2002.

If tubing isn’t for you, and your family would like to try something new or more adventurous, Soldier Hollow also has a 31-kilometer system of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails for beginning to expert skiers. Home of the courses used in the 2002 Winter Olympics, the resort features a full service Rossignol Demo Center with both skate and classic equipment rentals, a Ski School that specializes in Learner Packages and scenic tours, snowshoeing (including rentals), or a competitive Olympic Biathlon Experience (call 435.654.2002 for more information).

And once you’ve tubed, skied, and snowshoed to your heart’s content, you can grab some whipped hot cocoa at the Soldier Hollow Lodge or you can drive down to Heber and grab a bite at Dairy Keen. Awarded the Best of State for burgers and shakes five years running, this family-owned restaurant has great food and great prices (nothing costs more than $5).
